John B. Lamar to Mary Ann Cobb

February 15, 1852

Macon, Georgia

I shall leave on the Rail road in the morning for Sumter. Henry has gone on with the buggy to meet me at Montezuma at 10 on tomorrow morning, so that I shall be at the plantation tomorrow night.

I perhaps shall not be back in Macon before next Sunday at 4 o clock. So when you come over on Thursday, don’t be surprised to find me absent, but just take possession & make yourself at home. The servants know you are coming & will be ready for you. . . .

John A and Bajor went out to Swift Creek with me yesterday, shooting birds & returned last night. They stayed with me until after breakfast this morning. They both are getting to shoot very well & can kill a sparrow every shoot. They also practice at old Aunt Seny’s chickens & old man Charles’ pidgeons whenever either are wanted for dinner.
