John B. Lamar to Mary Ann Cobb
December 10, 1846
Macon, Georgia
I shall leave for Florida in the stage to-morrow and cannot possibly have the house built for Aunt Jenny before January. A new overseer comes in on the 1st of the year, and as a new broom sweeps clean, I will have the house up & the old lady moved in as quickly as possible. In the meantime she had best have her goods & chattells moved up & put into Clarissas house until hers is done. . . .
Andrew has sold out “lock stock & barrel” in Jefferson. He sold Rootesville for 2000$ to Isaac Newell of Milledgeville. Cherry Hill & Belmont he sold for $6000 to John Phinizy of Augusta. Joy go with the poor worn out places, as I am heartily glad they are out of the family.
